Happy 2020 -- Welcome back. I am happy to be back to blogging again. I got back to Dallas yesterday, so I am no longer on vacation and back to my 'normal' routine. So, it feels like this is my actual start to the new year!
I thought I would share my goals for the new year. I'm someone who loves a fresh start -- but I don't always wait until the new year to make changes. New weeks, months, etc. are always fun to me!
I don't have any huge plans, but here's what I am envisioning for 2020:
1. Run a marathon. I am signed up to run a marathon in Ventura, CA in May! I'm slightly terrified but also excited. I have tried to train for one before but ended up getting hurt, so I am hopeful this time around goes better.
2. Spend less. I kind of talk about this in some of my other goals, but I have really scaled down on my hoarding tendencies and want to head in a more minimal direction when it comes to stuff and spending. I have mostly cut out spending like Starbucks, boujee fitness classes, and we try to eat out less -- so Nate and I hope to stick with this plan in 2020. Plus most of our friends are married by now, so we won't be flying somewhere new every weekend this summer ;)
3. Buy a house. Kind of contradicts my last goal....LOL but we are hoping to buy our first house this year! We have loved where we live, but we are so ready to get out into the suburbs and have something of our own!
4. Focus on health more. I want to keep making healthier decisions, not only in what I eat, but also in exercise and the products I use! Something I have become passionate about recently is clean beauty products and cleaning products in my home. I've learned a lot about how important it is for your overall health to be mindful of chemicals and bad ingredients in products we use every day. I want to keep making decisions towards a healthier lifestyle, always!
5. Read more. I've read two books so far over my "Christmas break" and it has felt so good! I love to read, I just don't always make time for it. I totally notice how much better I sleep when I read a chapter of a book before bed instead of scrolling Instagram.
6. Mimimalize my life + declutter! I will truly never be a minimalist, but I have found satisfaction in really scaling down the 'stuff' in my life. Mainly because our tiny apartment has absolutely no storage, but also because I realized stuff just doesn't bring me joy.
7. Stick to our budget. The end of 2019 brought some budget killers (my car needed repairs, scout got sick....christmas....etc.) and so we are focused on maintaining our budget for 2020!
8. Less screen time, more fresh air! Nate and I started going on walks sometimes at night instead of just watching TV for hours when we get home from work. We are so much more relaxed and enjoy being together that way, instead of wasting the few hours we have together at the end of the day.
9. Reading my Bible more, going to church more, joining a small group and getting more plugged into church. 2019 was a super busy year and while it was fun, it just didn't allow us to really dive into our church. Making that a priority for this year! I started using an app that plans you reading the Bible in a year. It also has interactive videos to help explain the stories. This is something I have always wanted to do and tried multiple times, but its hard. So this year I hope to stick with it.
10. Sharing more about what I am passionate about on my blog/social media. This year I have found new passions and grew in others. While I love fashion, I also love home decor, DIYs, crafts, health, fitness. I have also found a new passion for self-care -- things that really changed my life such as focusing on mental health, creative outlets, and living more purposefully. It is super easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing -- especially when I see other people on Instagram growing at much faster rates than I am! The comparison game is too real. However, I want to make it a point to just share more about what I love and am passionate about, even if everyone else is doing something different.
I hope you all enjoyed reading this post and are having a great start to your New Year!
Talk to you in my next post,
Kenzie
